Editor’s Pick for Best Cheesesteak Sandwich
JoJo’s is one of those places that I would NEVER have tried if it weren’t for this website. I’ve known about it for years…it’s on a very busy corner where Calhoun and Martin Luther King Boulevard converge into Princeton Avenue. But it looks so darn funky, in a very funky neighborhood. Boy, was that my mistake. JoJo’s makes really good steak sandwiches, right up there with the best, if not THE BEST in Trenton.
Operating continuously in the same location since 1959, JoJo’s cuts their own steaks, and cooks them wonderfully. In fact, my only complaint with their sandwich is that they don’t offer Provolone (only white American or Whiz). Other than that, the bread is good (coming from Italian People’s Bakery), and the fixings are excellent…even creative. Try the “Trash Can” sandwich which comes with fresh tomatoes (nice ripe plum tomatoes), onions, mushrooms, dill pickles (sour) and hot peppers. Fantastic!
Sandwiches are ordered by the “steak”. The smaller sandwiches have one or two steaks…the big guys are three or four steaks.
JoJo’s is take out only. It’s located on a very dangerous corner (traffic, that is), in a very funky neighborhood. But for a fantastic sandwich at a very reasonable price, you can’t beat it.

What a cool find! I live in Lawrenceville and Jojo’s is close to me – I had no idea it was there until I saw it here on Hidden Trenton.
Wife had a #2 with wiz – I had a medium Trash Can, no tomatoes. We split an order of the darn tasty crinkle fries (have the fellow put salt, pepper and ketchup on for you).
What can I say? Best cheesesteak in the area. My trash can sandwich had plenty of tasty steak and tangy pickles, salty pepper and ‘wiz. Oh, was I happy.
Jojo was hanging out in front and we struck up a nice conversation; what a nice guy. They set me up with a call-ahead menu. It will be put into frequent use, and soon!
JoJo’s makes the best cheesesteaks in Trenton and the surrounding area. Fresh rolls, real steaks, fresh tomato, and perfectly steamed and browned onions! My mouth is watering right now thinking about biting into one!
I’ve had almost all of the sandwiches ovr the years, but the half club steak with onions and tomatos is my old standby. And the fries are always cooked just right, nice and crispy. I’ve been ging there for twenty five years so I know what I’m talking about, trust me!
Also. they’re open late, especially on Friday and Saturday, so if you’re out at a club and you want something tasty to eat after, go there.
If you want to eat the garbage at places like Subway, or Quiznos, go ahead, but you won’t know what you’re missing if you don’t try a real traditional cheeseteak joint like JoJo’s.
