Is a Bigger Burger Better? (Rossi's Bar & Grill)
Rossi’s Bar & Grill 501 Morris Avenue, Trenton (609) 394-9089
(Directions)
There’s definitely a school of thought among hamburger lovers that bigger is better. This idea helped launch Burger King,* and it’s still very much in force today in certain circles.
For those among you inclined to agree, I submit Rossi’s. I have taken otherwise sober-minded, straight-laced Princetonians to Rossi’s and seen them burst out giggling when their plates arrived. Yes, the burgers are THAT big. The patties are hand pressed from good quality ground beef.

The accompanying fries are of the “steak” variety, OK, but nothing special.
Rossi’s is located on the edge of the ‘Burg, and it’s an old style bar with a fair amount of gritty charm. The original founder was a professional baseball umpire, and there’s interesting memorabilia on the wall. It usually attracts a pretty good crowd of mostly locals with a few tourists mixed in, so the people watching is good too.
Rossi’s also has a full menu of mostly red-sauce Italian stuff. It’s OK, if someone in your party isn’t in the mood for a burger, but you wouldn’t drive cross town for anything else on the menu.
Now as big as Rossi’s burgers are, they’re not the biggest in town. For those of you who really want the BIGGEST BURGER you can buy, check out Cesare’s Cafe, 346 Emory Avenue, at the corner of Division Street, just a few blocks away (Directions). Believe it or not, Cesare’s are so big that it’s impossible to eat without slicing up the patty.
*My thinking on this topic dredged this jingle from my less than totally efficient synapses: “The bigger the burger, the better the burger, the burgers are bigger at Burger King!”
Next time you go to Rossi’s, ask for the homemade chips instead of the fries! They are absolutely delicious, and not greasy in the least! THey come out piping hot, and are a giant mound of fried potato happiness. Just add salt and pepper! Absolutely delish! Cheers! -F. Scott
