An Old Friend…(Amici Milano Restaurant)
Amici Milano 600 Chestnut Avenue, Trenton (609) 396-6300
(Directions) (Website)
At one point there were more than 50 Italian restaurants in Chambersburg. Now there are only a handful. Most of the Italian community has moved out of Trenton. Suburban communities once bereft of decent restaurants (read: Princeton) now have two or three Italian eateries, and heavily promoted, Italian-themed chain restaurants dot Rte. 1. In the face of enormous over-capacity and greatly increased competition, something had to give: most of the old Chambersburg Italian eateries are gone. Many are being replaced with a miscellany of other ethnic foods (Central American, Polish, Soul), but that’s a story for other reviews.

Of the restaurants that survive, Amici Milano’s is one of the best. It’s the sort of place to take out your parents or your friends when they visit you in Trenton. The decor is “fancy” without being over-the-top, and you will be seated comfortably whether you select a booth or table.
The menu is extensive, though don’t expect any ground-breaking cuisine. There’s a decent wine list, which is not over-priced. The food is solidly prepared, the portions are ample, and prices are moderate.
Eating at Amici Milano is like dining with an old friend, even if it’s just you and your spouse.
There’s free parking (with validation) around the corner on Roebling.
