Editor’s Pick for Best Burger
Lisa’s Filling Station Restaurant (LFS) fills a niche in the restaurant ecology of Trenton that in more prosperous (suburban) locales has been usurped by chains like TGIF and Ruby Tuesday. LFS does basic American food: burgers, salads, sandwiches, and the odd entree. And it’s another reason to be thankful that there’s an independent operator doing a great job in Trenton, and keeping the chains at bay.

Let’s start with the burger. It’s a reasonable contender for “best burger in Trenton” (though Rossi’s many fans would disagree), based on a 10-oz, hand formed, Angus beef patty on a Kaiser Roll. You can order a blue-cheese bacon burger, pizza burger, jersey burger (pork roll and cheese), hickory burger (cheddar, bacon, and BBQ sauce), mushroom cheeseburger, and many more.
LFS does wonderful home made soups. Last time I was there, 6 different soups were on offer, including: chicken sausage gumbo, cream of broccoli, chicken escarole with sausage and white bean, and black bean. The soups are thick, and come in a heaping bowl-full. TGIF’s doesn’t come close!
Salads and sandwiches are solid and hearty. Service is friendly, but not always quick.
