Bert Dumas (and his wife Halima) became cult figures in Trenton (which is, after all, really a small town) by showing up at the weekly farmer’s market in Mill Hill park with baked goods that were unbelievably good. Week after week. Huh…
Fast-forward a couple of years, and Bert has opened a fabulous NOLA-style bakery/bistro right next to Trenton Social in the emerging “Wire Rope District”. Bert should know about New Orleans, since he’s a native: Great food. Even better baked goods. Chicory coffee. Fresh made Beignets (header image). Indeed, pretty much everything at Studio B seems to be fresh made.
There’s a full breakfast and lunch menu. Currently not open on Sundays, but Bert assures me he’s working toward brunch. Here’s some eye candy (click on any image to enlarge)…
What’s great about Studio B is that the food is very good on its own, even without the baked goods. Then the pastries are superb. My waistline and blood sugar count won’t support extensive sampling, but everything we’ve tried so far has been out of this world. The beignet’s (a traditional form of New Orleans fried bread) are amazing with just a hint of crispness, and a subtle spice in the sugar mixture. The warm bread melts in your mouth. Simple, but completely addictive when washed down with Studio B’s excellent chicory coffee.
A tremendous new addition to the Trenton restaurant (and bakery) scene.
