Downtown Delights (Trenton Kebab House)

Editor’s Pick for Best New Restaurant

In the 1970s, there was a joint called Mamoud’s in Greenwich Village, which made the best falafel sandwich in NYC at the time.  It was one of my favorite cheap dinners, and one of my favorite light meals, period.

The Trenton Kebab house replaced the Quiznos on East State, right downtown, and serves up a falafel that rivals Mamoud’s, along with an extensive menu of middle eastern delights: gyro (lamb or chicken), hummus, babaganoush, labbne, spiced ezme, stuffed grape leaves, tabouli, adana kebab, kofta, etc.  It’s great to see a really well managed independent operation thrive where a chain restaurant failed, and to have such a great place join in the downtown restaurant revival along with places like Howard’s Place II, Cafe International, and the San Juan Cafe.
Kebab House

The food is totally authentic, home-made in the store, and fairly priced.  Between the falafel and various other vegetarian foods, it’s a great place to go with a vegetarian or mixed group of veggies and carnivores.  As an extra bonus, the Kebab House will deliver in the downtown area, including Mill Hill.
Note:  TKH normally serves sandwiches with a dill-yogurt dressing.  If you prefer Tahini dressing (which I do), you just have to ask for it.

  • This is an AMAZING place. My husband and I order from there at least 1x/wk. There is nothing bad here! I go to NYC everyday for work/school and trust me, this place beats out some of the best up there.

This place has got to be one of the best Mediterranean places i have ever eaten at. The serving size is generous, my husband and I always order 2 platters, because we refuse to share the Gyro Doner, and we end up taking half of our orders home. The price is pretty good too, and i love that they dont have a delivery charge or a minimum delivery amount. 2 thumbs up to TKH :)

The Kebab House has it all..and what it doesn’t you don’t want. The food here is excellent, fresh and bursting with flavor. My favorite is the Chiken Adana Kebab. I also love the humus, the cheese rolls, are great too. Honestly, the whole menu rocks. Don’t be suprised by the location the food is awesome. Very authentic, very tasty. One note the food is FRESH, which means unlike Quzinos, it takes a few minutes. Its very much worth the wait. Enjoy your lunch, tell Kadir that Harry sent you!
