(Covid Update Dec 2021 – in business) La Parrilla (grill, in Spanish), is one of the Trenton’s newest Guatemalan restaurants, the city’s most vibrant (and increasingly most competitive) segment. Located in an old tomato pie restaurant, La Parrilla emphasizes grilled meats and seafood.
Dinner platters range from roughly $8.99 to $15.99. Shown in the photo is a $14.99 platter that comes with Carne Asada (marinated flank steak) and Costilla Adobada (marinated pork ribs). Platters come with your choice of 3 “sides”, e.g. rice, beans (red or black), tostones, sweet plantains, guacamole. If you’re not so hungry, you can also get tacos, tostadas, quesadillas, soups, or salads. There’s also a lunch menu with smaller platters ranging from $6.99 to $7.99.
La Parrilla is NOT a particularly vegetarian-friendly place: no cheese pupusas, for example. Strict vegetarians will be limited to rice, beans, plantains, and salad. Pescetarians will do well with a fairly extensive set of seafood options.
Be sure to specify if you want your steak rare or medium rare. I forgot to specify, and mine came well done.
