Each year since 2004, the Trenton Film Society has been presenting cinema in downtown Trenton, which no longer supports a conventional movie theater.
The society supports regular showings of movies during the year.
It also sponsors:
- The Oscar Shorts: the Society’s principal fund-raiser, it sponsors programs of the complete, nominated oeuvre: animated, live-action, and documentaries, just before the Oscars are voted. In 2015, Thur-Sat, Feb 19-22.
- Special Events: films about Trenton often with the filmmaker speaking after the screening. In 2015 the Society is showing Riot on the Dance Floor: The Story of Randy Now and City Gardens. This chronicles a Punk Rock Club in the early 1980s that was a premiere East Coast venue for the genre. Friday, Feb 13.
- The International Film Festival: showings of recent, notable foreign films. Friday, 4/10 – Sunday, 4/12, 2015.
- Trenton Film Festival: a juried festival attracting films from aspiring filmmakers. The society makes a special effort to attract films from young and local filmmakers. Thursday, 6/11 – Sunday, 4/12, 2015.
Well worth checking out.
