P&G Trading Company is one of central NJ’s premiere purveyors of fine seafoods to the wholesale trade. The heart of their business is delivering seafood to restaurants and groceries. Their distribution plant is located on Ott Street in Trenton (across the Street from Ana Candle). While they used to have a retail store (pictured below) where they would sell in small quantities, they recently ran out of room in the warehouse and closed it. However, I am assured by the owner that they will still sell retail, though only now in case quantities or whole sides of fish.
I suggest you call ahead to make sure that P&G has what you’re looking for, in a size you can manage.
It’s a great deal. By buying direct from the distributor, you’re getting a fresher product, cheaper, which you know has been correctly stored and handled. You also get a bigger selection than any retailer can afford to carry.
While the location isn’t amazingly convenient, it’s not all that far either: Ott Street is off North Clinton, just north of the Police Station/Municipal Court complex at the intersection of Perry and Clinton. The entrance to the retail store is clearly marked, on the far left as you face the building from the parking lot.
Is this a wholesale operation?
Marion–check out the link, which has that info. They do sell directly to the public for bulk retail purchases. Only in case quantities or whole sides of fish.
Thanks for posting! Never knew this was here! 🙂
Sadly, it appears that P&G’s retail operation is no longer. I went down there today (6/18/09) and there is a sign stating that as of 4/09, their retail operations are no longer.
What a tragedy!
Editor’s Comment: While the retail operation has “closed” ( they ran out of room), P&G will still sell retail if you order a big enough quantity. For example, a whole salmon fillet, or a case of shrimp. Hours are now the same as the wholesale operation, 7am-3pm, M-Sa.
My husband is the health inspector that covers P&G and he RAVES about it. The fish is fresh, the place is clean, and the staff is professional. Go now and buy fish!!
