Few people outside of their loyal audience, and true theatre congnescenti, recognize that one of the best professional theaters in New Jersey makes its home in Trenton, and has done for nearly 30 years.
“I can’t think of another regional theater that has so consistently presented such challenging, exciting theater!”
-Bob Brown, Princeton Packet
The Mill Hill Playhouse, the venue where Passage usually mounts productions, is an historic stone church on the edge of Mill Hill Park. Seating 100 or so people, it’s an intimate, utterly charming performance space which allows performers and audiences to create magic together.
Somehow Passage manages to bring in a diverse mix of new plays – often world premieres – and extraordinarily talented actors, directors, designers, and technicians.
The Theatre’s childrens’ education programs serve inner-city Trenton youth, and delight audiences from everywhere…see Kids Writes for more details.
Go out of your way to see a Passage Theater production. You will be delighted. As evidence I offer “Love and Communications”. It was fabulous.
It is amazing that a relatively small city like Trenton has such an extraordinary theatre company! The main stage work is always fascinating, very high quality, often brilliant new work. The other programs for local kids, playwrights and actors are also fantastic and lots of fun. What a gem!
Best theatre. New cutting edge work.
Don’t miss the State Street Project’s Urban Central by David White! http://www.passagetheatre.org for details. December 14-16, 2007 at Mill Hill Playhouse!
