Jerry’s is an unassuming, but charming dive on the 700 Block of S Broad, across from the fire station. Luis, the current owner, served his pie-making apprenticeship at Papa’s and Two Brothers prior to striking out on his own. And what a pie he makes! We’ve eaten there twice: the first time they produced one of the finest crusts of any pie in the competition: chewy, crisp throughout, perfectly charred, and delicious. The second time, the pie seemed slightly undercooked: still really good, but not extraordinary. We think it was pulled out of the oven 45 seconds too soon… Both times we enjoyed good cheese and tomato, though laid down in the non-traditional order (tomato then cheese) and fresh mushrooms. The owner, Luis, is extremely friendly and a wonderful host if not too busy. Absolutely the best Trenton-style tomato pie we’ve found within city limits, and one of the best pies in the entire competition, a Finalist in its own right, not simply due to its location in Trenton. When you order, make sure Luis makes your pie. The other pie men aren’t nearly as reliable. [Read Full Review]
